The Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir leads the musical worship of the Parish every Sunday at 10:30 AM during the months of the school year. We rehearse every Thursday evening at 7 PM. This choir sings the liturgical music settings for the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) and Book of Alternative Services (BAS), and regularly offers anthems in a variety of styles. We also participate in several extra services each year, most funerals and more widely in deanery events as they occur. Membership is open to anyone who wishes to use their talents in this worship setting.

The Men’s Club

The Men’s Club at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church started in 1976 with only 8 members. Today the Men’s Club continues to play a vital role in the church and has grown to over 45 members. The main purpose of the Men’s club is a means to provide fellowship in a relaxed social atmosphere for men of the congregation and at the same time raise money for various church projects, activities and youth groups. Membership is open to all men of the parish and their male guests. Meetings are normally held the third Monday of the month between September and April. Each meeting begins with a home cooked meal prepared by volunteers from the Men’s Club. A guest speaker and a business meeting follow the meal.

The Men’s Club sponsors annually Parish events including a pancake & bean supper, Parish breakfasts, a kitchen party, a yard sale, a year end roast beef dinner, and the occasional golf tournament.

Mothers’ Union (MU)

The Mothers’ Union Group meet the 2nd Tuesday of every month at which time we share in worship, education and outreach. Many of us are Anglican, most of us are women, but membership in the Mothers’ Union is open to any baptized Christian. There has been a Mothers’ Union branch at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church for 27 years. We currently have a very faithful but small membership and we are eager to grow in this respect.

Although fundraising is not part of the MU mandate, we host a spring and fall “New-to-You” Sale, which allow us to help those in our community and in our parish that need support. We also support the families in the parish in many ways, some of which are:

  • Organizing and operating the baby nursery
  • Maintaining the Baptismal banner and hosting receptions following baptisms
  • Hosting the “Back-to-School” Luncheon in September
  • Hosting the luncheon following the Sunday School Pageant during Advent
  • Send birthday cards to children of the parish
  • Offering an organized child-care time prior to Christmas to allow parents a few hours to prepare for the holidays.
  • We support the community in an outreach project before Christmas.
  • We support the Moncton Street Hope Moncton outreach project by donating personal for that organization to support the marginalized youth of our community.

Sunday School

Saint John the Baptist Anglican Church Sunday School runs with the same time period as the school year, with classes during the 10:30 AM worship service. Our modular format gives children aged 5 to 18 the ability to explore their spirituality and grow through crafts, stories and games. Older children mentor and support those younger than them, which fosters an atmosphere of collaboration and mentoring. Nursery programs are also available for pre-school children.
